Bluegrass has been canceled because the track will not be ready on time, despite prior assurances from track management. All those that pre-registered will be allowed to receive credit for another event, or a refund if no healthy alternative is available.
Hallelujah! Praise be to the motorcycle gods.
I filled out my registration form and stuck it in a stamped envelope.
Here we go!

We are proceeding with our June 10th track day at Bluegrass in Kentucky. The cost is fixed at $150 for all three skill levels. It will be held with limited, optional instruction. This means those who simply want to turn laps may do so. There are no classrooms, so it's pretty much your average track day for all. It is on a Wednesday, right before our race on Thursday. This is also the same weekend as the WERA national race. Registration opens at 7:30. We will have an hour lunch and ~7 hours of total track time, divided into 3 sessions each hour. There is a limit of 30 riders per skill level, so we expect the intermediate and advanced to fill up fast, with the beginner close behind.
You may pay by check, credit card, or pay-pal(coming soon to our webpage). Your registration is complete when we have both the registration form and payment. If desired, you can simply call us direct and we will copy down you registration info and credit card payment over the phone!!! We can answer any related questions you may have.
See our webpage for registration forms and details!

All Day 150
Morning Only 90
Afternoon Only 90
Post Registration Fee: 25
(Only applies to Registrations received 31 days or less prior to event)
What are the hours/times on these sessions? ...particularly the half day sessions. Are there half day sessions available for Beginner or Intermediate? ...or is this exclusively advanced?
Are there any license/certification requirements for the riders? I'm assuming not, but I recall a few years ago when Bob was running a weekly track session, you had to be "Speed Certified".

There should be about 7 - 20 minute sessions, weather permitting. Speed cert no longer exists. The lunch break should be after the 3rd session, most likely around 11:30. The way it is set, I could see a halfday for any skill level, most likely sans beginner. However, Todd would be the one to ask. All our contact info is on the webpage.

In the perfect world typical track days:
Register 7-8
3 groups (B-I-A) every 20 minuntes (1 hour) on track
8-9
9-10
10-11
11-12
Lunch
1-2
2-3
3-4
4-5
Make sure you're gassed up, equipment on, and ready before each session to keep things moving to plan. They try to stick to the plan so if there are clean-up incidents, your group usually looses their times.

Half day is pre/post lunch. At present, on track activity should start at 8:30. There will be 3-4 sessions before and after lunch. So, we generally say to shoot for 7 sessions.

So does the first half day session end at the beginning of lunch, and the second half day session begin after? ...or do they overlap and run during the lunch break while all the full-day riders are off the track? I'm just trying to figure out if the half day sessions are truly 50%, or if you get a little extra time (maybe 5 hours instead of 4?) since you're paying $90. I'm just curious. An afternoon half day might be more appealing to me, both for my budget and time commitments.

I emailed the track earlier in the week regarding a few topics. Here's the reply, in case anyone else was wondering about these topics:
Yes we will allow pets and camping. We are in the process of putting together our policies on this, so please take a look in the website around the end of March.

I have interest in doing a track day (have never been on a track) just to improve skills. I feel like I'm a fairly skilled rider and would go for the beginner level. I have a few questions........
For this event, $150 would be the total cost? (no "license" needed)
Bike (vstrom) can be in street trim? (other than taping lights/speedo/mirrors)
I would check with my insurance (progressive) but do you know if an event like this would be considered "training" in the case of trashing a bike?
Scott
Scott,
And everyone.
The Fasttrax track days page says for beginners you can run anti-freeze, but it is not allowed in the intermediate and advanced groups. I guess the assumption is that the latter will be going fast and more likely to crash and spill.
Having said that, please, please, please dump the antifreeze and run either straight water or WaterWetter. Antifreeze doesn't clean off a track worth didly and it is slippery.
Street trim is OK as long as anything that can impale someone is removed (sissy bar as an example) and taping all the lights up is the way to go.
The Fasttrax crew will be more than willing to help everyone get squared away. Our desire is to invite participation.
Here is a link to the regisation form. Do it NOW!

The only other fee may be a gate fee of about $10. This is charged by the tracks, not us. No license or other requirements. The main thing is a safe bike and safety gear. We have leather suits for rent, but most people own their own. Gauntlet gloves, over ankle boots, helmet, and either a leather suit (1 or 2 piece) or a aerostitch tough riding suit are allowed. The best option is one piece leather.

I sealed the envelop today for the track day and mailed it along with my race license fee's.. I would also sent my paperwork for the 3 endurance the following day and will soon as the forms are posted..
Scott, (hyflyer) Sign up and go to this you'll kick a$$ and have a blast. I would love to take my vstrom so we can go out and play though .. If nothing we can pit together.
$150 is total cost the way I understand it and it will be worth your while.

Thanks for the info.... no problem on water only ... makes perfect sense!! I wear full gear (textile) on the street but would rent leathers for the day.
I'll check on the insurance thing and try to get signed up before 3/1

In case anyone is interested.............
I called my insurance people (Progressive) today and talked to a nice CSR named Erin to ask a couple of questions about my motorcycle policy.
On the issue of being covered while on a race track (a specific exclusion according to the policy). The response is YES I am covered as long as the purpose of being on the track is for rider training/skill building in an organized setting and NOT competition. She also said to inform them after my trackday and they will give me a discount on my premium:jamout ! How sweet is that :D .

I'm signing up also. Scott, you could almost do the intermediate class. Start off in the beginner and maybe they'll let you bump up to the intermediate after lunch. Thank God niether of my bikes have antifreeze in them, that makes it easy.
Get your registrations in!!!!!!!!

I'm confident on a bike but I figure I'll start in beginner so I don't miss anything and let those in control of things move me to something else if they feel it's appropriate. I'm definitley doing this to learn.

I too have Progressive on my S4 (all my other bikes are with other carriers). If the policy states that they won't cover the bike on the track, but then they say (verbal) that they'll cover if it is training and not competition, how do you know they they're gonna cover it when/IF something really happens? Did you get something from them other than the verbal go ahead? Just curious...

I guess somebody has to trust somebody. :what: Besides, ALL coversations COULD be monitored AND/OR recorded for accuracy (not just by them:ssmoker:)
I know what your saying though and agree that a written answer will be better. But this was what I needed to make the decision and get my ball rolling for now.

Although I must admit, not knowing for certain if my S4 would be covered, would not prevent me from putting it on the track. ;)

Bluegrass has been canceled because the track will not be ready on time, despite prior assurances from track management. All those that pre-registered will be allowed to receive credit for another event, or a refund if no healthy alternative is available. It's a shame, but it's simply out of our hands and we called them at least once a week over the last month trying to avoid a last minute cancellation. However, they are willing to work with us for something nice, so expect a possible date or two still this year!

I say we all go down, jump the fence (with our bikes of course), and have the track to ourselves for a night. Who's coming with me?

Hey Fox guy, why don't you shut up and cut these guys some breaks. I swear you do nothing but complain. Do you have a degree in engineering or maybe some track building experience that allows you to say stuff about the timeline and wwhat should or shouldn't happen?
Cut the track day guys at STT and these guys a break. It isn't their fault.

FHR is very concerned about the track and its well being, because he plans on spending a lot of time there riding his motorcycle and exploring the limits of himself and his machine. Give him a break...
Oh what is that you say, they won't even let him on the track on knobbies.....why not I hear he is super fast on them...
What now, you actually have to maintain your motorcycle to a certain level to pass tech....come on he has a new sprocket and chain leave the guy alone. What, you mean you actually need to prep a bike and really should keep it in top notch operating form before you take it out on the track......
Ahhh oh well, guess that will pretty much leave him and most of the others with nothing better to do than come on here and flex their inter-muscles......
It will open eventually and I will see some of you there, the rest of you will have to find something else to bitch about..carry on!

Sorry about that Rencrn8, I just recently lost (November, same week as my birthday) my Great job due to my cargo van to deliver my packages in broke in an early morning frost where my van slide into a wall. Then I decided to persue some jobs that I wanted to fulfill in my life, like working on a farm and not making Lots of Money so I could spend it on things I really wanted. I have to think of what does the money that I made, go to in bills this month. I used to not have to worry about what I spent. Thats why I'm rolling on knobbies right now cause thats all I can afford. I wasn't saying it was Apollo's fault, I was saying that BGP was sending false email out to everyone saying, Yeah we're Ready, wait about a couple days to two weeks before the event and some folks asked to have off from work so they could partisipate in and say, up too bad we have to cancel the event on you due to us not following up on getting this track finished on time in Great weather we had a few weeks ago. I'm not perfect, Sorry I can't be up to your expectations. I am just trying to get by in life by enjoying the things that I love- Thanks, Philip

Don't worry about living up to my expectations, I have none. I hear ya about money, my income is down by over 50% this year.
I am just amazed at how much people tag along onboard stuff that really in the long run isn't going to effect them anyways.
Actually truth be known I am just having a shitty week so I figured I would let it out on you.
I need a race to go to!
Just in good fun, just playing around since you tend to make yourself an easy target.
Do what you can, love what you do man. I aint mad at ya!
