i didnt know where else to post this.
im looking for a 180/55 rear slick take off preferably a pirrelli/metzeler. it only needs to be good enough for on practice day at nelsons.
im working on putting a 5.5 rear wheel off a 00' gsxr 750 on my sv. i know what your thinking, "why"? well for know reason other than i have a wheel laying around and access to a machine shop. so far i have around $15 invested. i just want to try it and see what it does to my lap times. thanks

You maybe be in luck!!! we normaly eat up rear tires in no time but we have a tire with about 12 laps on it. Its a dunlop 180/55

This has been discussed before. The concensus was that even though it looks cool, it won't necessarily help your lap times. The added weight of the bigger wheel/tire robs horsepower from your machine, and it won't accel so fast. You also don't really need any more lean angle from the bigger tire.
With that said, please post some pictures here so we can see how it looks. Good luck.

actually Team squid already has that slick... The other slicks we have laying around are not so good on the right side!

i know that i dont really need more rubber in back. im still way off the pace and not even close to using the bike to its fullest, but like i said it isnt costing me any thing really. i have another brake hanger and spacers so i can go back to stock with know problem. (Actually i might need a right side spacer if any one as a spare one). just thought i would give it a try.
also im not 100% sure but i think the 00' gixxer wheels are lighter than the stock sv wheels. with the added weight of the rubber it would probably be pretty close to the same. i know that guys have used 95' gixxer wheels that are easyer to swop but they are definitely heavier.
so im still looking for a slick and possibly a right side spacer.

I have a garage full of lightly used slicks. Some P brand, and some B brand. I can bring them to Nelson for you to look through. They will not fit my motard, but the fronts do. So I'll sell 'em. Let me know if I should bring them.

One thing of advice that I will give you, for I did the F3 wheel mod a few years ago.
First, the wheel "IS NOT" centered in your swingarm. Mount up your stock SV wheel, use all the right spacers and tighten the axle, and measure from the edge of the swingarm to the edge of the rim, on both sides, you will see that the wheel is offset in the swingarm to the right. Now, your wheel is still centered on your bike, it's just the swingarm is offset to clear the cush drive.
Then, mount up your GSXR wheel, and split the difference. This will give you the numbers you need to calculate the length of the spacers you need.
If you need a CAD drawing of the setup, let me know, I have one done using the F3 wheel.

well this has know become a winter project. i need to make a new brake hanger. the stock one does not have enough off-set and rubs on the rotor. every thing else fit pretty good. thanks for the offers for the tires.
