The old saying MOM knows best, is always true. Chech your M.otorcycle's O.wner's M.anual first thing and go from there. The purchase of a good shop manual will pay for itself if you intend to do the maintaince yourself. Lots of good stuff in both that will keep you drooling! Good luck. :p

Thanks..............I intend to buy the Service manual soon, but in the mean time I still need to know how to remove the old ones so I can install the new ones......

What are you having problems with? Remove tank, remove air box. Then you should see 4 spark plug caps. Give them a litte tug to pull them up. It is like a 6"-8" long piece. Down inside that hole is your spark plug. The ones on the outside edges are a little bit of a pain but not to awful. Do the 2 middle ones first to get the hang of it and you will be golden. Your tool kit comes with a very handy spark plug wrench also. If you have any questions let me know.

OK I did do all of that..I removed the tank and see where the sparkplugs are at, but I bought this bike just recently used and i dont have any of the original tools.......Abd you say that all i have to do is pull up on the Coil type caps on each of the plugs....I tried to to that and dont want to risk breaking it.............

It was kind of scary pulling on them the first time. I just pulled with steady pressure and kind of twisted them back and forth. I have a manual at home and I will reread to you exactly what the book says but I swear I just pulled on them. I have done 2 different 01 6r's.

Twist the boot a little. The boots kind of bond them selves to the spark plug with all the heat and twisting them a little will help loosen them up before you pull on them.

Is it running bad? The only reason I ask is that I have a 2001 ZX-9R with 21,000 miles on it with the original plugs in it and it still runs great. If it is, you may have gotten some bad gas or if it sat a while the carbs may need cleaned and the fuel filter replaced.
