Do you still have a streetbike, Kathy? Or is it pretty much racing and trackdays only now?

Yep. The 999 but its up for sale right now. Gonna bring the race bike to get some seat time one it. Trying to get used to it since I have never even ridden a jap bike till the weekend before our last race. Much faster then the 900 we raced last year.

Well our Beaver plans are up in the Air. So, We might be at Mid-OH for the track day.

My wife is due in early May, and so is Steve's. Same week to be exact. (Yes I am a busy man).

Long story short, Beaver maybe just a little to far away to be from our expectant wives. So we maybe at Mid-OH, so look for us you Turd Burgalurs.

Double check before you decide. The weather may turn out pretty crappy. I want the wet experience anyway, so I don't care, but thought you might want to make an informed decision.

I don't care about the temp (50+ would be nice) I just don't want it to be wet.

snow showers sat/sun/mon with low's in the 20's.

icy, wet, concrete patches anyone?

Well, hopefully, STT will decide that 1" of snow on the track is un-safe conditions, and will issue us that "rain/snow check" that is on their site. :uhh:

Yeah I'll be heading up as well. There are a couple of guys on the gixxer.com board who will be there as well. I'm hoping for the rainchecks. If not, I still don't think I'm riding. I'd rather eat that $200 versus risking riding in wet 30F conditions. Talk about cold tire crashes. I don't think the AMA guys would ride in these conditions. I thought about putting a set of rain tires on but with the low temps I still have to worry about them coming up to, and maintaining, temperature in those conditions.

And yeah I'm looking forward to more of this as well:

We got notification today that the trackday will be going forward. It's going to be a cold day. I was thinking about rains myself, but I just don't know. Will they help at all when it gets that cold? Somebody with more brains than me tell me what I can expect.

Uhmmm... Cold tires, Cold Track all around cold.

I'll be running Pirelli Corsa's (Track/Street tire) hoping because they are a street/track tire that they should come up on temp quicker than a full on race tire.

I can deal with the cold, just don't want the rain.

The first race at Nelson's last year was Kinda cold (50"s maybe) and it rained like a MOFO. We all did fine,it was OK. I wouldn't say it was enjoyable, and I'm not looking FWD to doing it again.

Cold wet leathers....Ugh

You guys will be fine on either DOT or even full rains. It has to be totally puddled out there for full rains to work - temp not really an issue as rain tires work best when they are cool. Hence the reason for such high psi #'s you need for full rains. A light rain or "damp" track would be fine on intermediates or even DOT's.

Trust me, after running Mid-Ohio in the rain last year, the concrete isn't nearly as bad as people say it is. Most negative comments come from street guys doing trackdays as opposed to racers. It's not bad at all...

her01sv
04-22-2005, 11:33 AM
so what kind of tires need to be run IN THE SNOW? lol it's not an issue anymore anyhow. boogeyman is working. so i'm just going up to visit a little bit and pickup our tires.

Assuming that M-O is in similar condition as last July, my advice is to be very careful in the wet. For motorcycles, there is way too much sealant. If you're on DOT's, it's a matter of survival - i.e. not a lot of fun!

Good luck!

Mike

The sealer is not a big issue - again, street guys are making it sound so scary in the rain. Not the case. Especially, with full rains. In the wet, it requires smooth and deliberate moves. You can't be sloppy in the rain - a smooth and experienced rider shines in the wet...

Sure, be careful, but unless you ride like an idiot in the dry, you shouldn't have any issues in the wet on full rains or even DOT's.

MG has plenty of laps around M-O, Bri. He even has one of those AMA Sports Champ hats, too. I'm with you, the surface doesn't bother me a bit, but MG has taught bunches of scared newbies to keep cool on unfamiliar territory.

BTW, your comment about psi's in Rains... aren't they to keep the tread blocks open?

So how was it? Did the event get cancelled?

SAT: Below 35 Deg temps, Rain turned to ice turned to snow. Track open, Track day on. (I turned 6 SUPER Slow laps, maybe, and said to myself this is STUPID. I parked the Bike for the rest of the day. I'm not a smart man,but I do know what a icy wet frozen track is..... Weather forecast for Sunday, was even colder temps and 6-12 inches of snow.

SUN: Awoke to 27 deg and trucks covered in ICE, snow on the roads.
Drive to track hoping this stupid BS is Canx so we can get our rain check, Meet at the gate and YES!! YES!! It was canx.

So all in all, One of the top 5 stupidest things I've ever done on a MC.

But atleast now I can say I rode Mid-OH in the snow.

Well Mike,
I'm sorry I missed ya. Are you doing any other track days? I know my team will be hitting Autobahn next weekend so we can get the lay of the land before the Wera race. Are you running the Wera at Nelsons? Looks like we may need to hook up some lights for that one. I think I will be starting and letting the vetrans finish up. Go Speedy Pete! Found some good sugestions on the Wera boards for lighting set up.

See ya soon!

Wife and I have a baby due in May. So the race bike gets parked for the month of May. I'll get to come back out and play in June.

Did you come out to Mid-Oh? We didn't see you. Hopefully you hadn't reg'ed yet and just stayed home (What I should have done)

See ya in June

I am sure he does, but I was directing my comments to more of the street crowd seeing that most street guys complain about the surface...

As far as the psi. yes, it does help keep the flutes open better for better water dispersement, but it also allows the tire to maintain cooler temps. You should be very aware of what a rain does once it starts to heat up - ala track starts to dry.

Also, one reason why you should NEVER use warmers on rains. Something these Supermoto guys need to learn...

Yeah, Miss the crowd of usual criminals at the Sledges. Boy, oh Boy, ya get a new bike and out comes the Smack talk. BTW, We found a few Ducati stickers on the 44 bike. We think they peeled off that 900SS on one of the MANY times we blistered by that bike. :Pest: :)

We more than likely make a return to Nelson for a Fasttrax event this year.

How you liking the RR? I'm thinking of trying to bluid up an 05 for next year.

If only I knew someone how had a RR that would let me turn a few laps on to see if I like it or not. :uhh:

See ya in June, BTW I think running at Nelson's in the dark is crazy, it would take a bigger pair than mine to do it.

So my track day didn't pan out either. Instead, we headed up there to get our $85 lunch and check out who the insano's were. :D A few people went out on Saturday, not sure how Sunday went. Apparently it was MidO that didn't want to cancel the events...who knows. There was even a car class going on, although four wheels are just a tad different than two and I'm guessing they missed that memo. Anywho, here's a few photos of the main reason I wish I could've ridden...they fixed turn seven...or eight...or whatever it is. :what:

They pushed back the wall and will be adding a gravel trap to finish it off. Sweet!

Mmmmmm....run off!!!!!
http://digital219.smugmug.com/photos/20515439-M.jpg

It doesn't look like it's pushed back too much but probably enough to make a difference and I don't think that wall will be staring me down anymore and it even looks like the viewing will be better.

I guess they even moved the wall down the back stretch...I didn't get to see it, but from what I hear it's better. I'm thinking these pics will look a whole lot better in July sans the effin' snow. :santa

Sunday Canx'ed due to the Concrete patches being frozen. Maybe the inch of snow had something to do with it.

Somehow the pic's from Sat don't really show cold and nasty it was.

Yeah, I couldn't believe that Mid-OH had the track open on Sat with as nasty as it was.

Yea Yea! I have to say the RR is sweetness. Your welcome to spank it any old time. Gently of course! Good luck blistering by me this year! I'm hoping to be turning consistant 1:13s by the end of the year. Low 1:15s for the first ever race on that machine seems too easy. Hell first time ever riding/racing a Jap bike. Must say I wont be dissin ya'll no mo.
