BMW R1100S in Endurance Racing

OK. Where and who would I be racing against if I decided to prep my BMW R1100S for endurance racing? Being a rookie, a slow one at that, I don't want to get blasted each time out. Would it be better just to find a SV 650 or go ahead and race the 1100 twin?

I'm not 100% sure, but based on the "Formula" rules, anything over 750cc's should be a Heavyweight bike. There was a Ducati 900ss running in middleweight last year though - maybe you should shoot an email to Mr. Stanley?

You will always get blasted by someone. If your out to have a good time who cares what you ride or how fast. Your only riding against yourself.

Seriously, though. If you are racing Iron Butt, there is no distinction for the bikes. The leader in Iron Butt right now is riding an SV650.

I agree with the comment about riding against yourself, as well. Endurance racing is some of the best track time for the money. Ride at your own pace, set goals, try to get behind someone just a little faster than you are. Stay on line and move predictably and you won't have to worry about getting blasted, the fast guys will get around on their own terms.

I doubt that you would be in heavy weight, since the bike is air cooled (if I remember correctly).

Just do it! you won't regret other than waiting this long already... I'm not sure what class the 1100s would end up in (it shouldn't be a hwt IMO)..
But ironbutt solo is a class all alone...
