Mods...dunno if this is the correct fourm, Feel free to move it.
Here is a clip from my last track day at Putnam, Sept 24th I think. I'm taking it easy for the first couple mins, warming my tires, then I see Steve and Rob, and decide to catch them. I run out of tape Just as I'm about to catch Rob. It's about 18 Megs, So dial up beware.

That is AWSOME!!!!
Now that I've been on this track myself, it's even more fun to watch it.
I should have asked you to head out with me and shoot a clip of me on the track so that I could watch it with friends and they could tell me what I did wrong, what I did right and how to improve.
May be next time ............

Same here...I was leaning as well, I actually got a kick of adrenaline when Bryan ran a bit wide and used all of the curb in turn 6 (? I think it was)!!!
Can't wait for the next track-day at Putnam or anywhere else for that matter.
Is there a steering-damper on that bike??? Looks like it needs one...
...and Bryan, change your name to zx10rKING!!!

You gotta kick..it's a good thing I ran out of tape, because the lap after I ran out of tape, I ran OFF the track in turn 2, did a little dirt tracking ;) Kept it up and continued to reel Rob in.
And yes the 10 Does have a Steering Damper on it. I think I had a couple of problems causing that head shake. One Loose nut behind the wheel (on the gas too hard with the bike still leaned over..this thing will do power wheelies in second) Two I seriously think the front tire wasnt properly balanced. I didnt have that kind of head shake my frist track day on different tires. And 3 I'm still working the kinks out of the suspension. A magazine I read call the ZX-10R "The Most Evil bike ever made" Man is that true
Maybe I'll change my name when (if) I get rid of my ZX-7R :2peace2:

Good stuff, I was watching to see if I saw me or anyone I was there with that day.
I had my 03 600 there in the advanced class. I got some video too, but haven't gotten tried to put it on the PC.
A buddy with an 04 600 hooked up with me and got some decent video but after a few laps I had to pull in as my motor over heated and I got black flagged.
It was a good day as I got into the 18s for the first time and with what I figured out on the last session before the motor went, I think 17s are very doable next time.
Which group where you in?

I have some more video, but not a lot dont know if I got any of you. Dont think I passed you, and the only person that passed me was a Duc 749, and a 996 on my warm up laps. I was in the advance (racers group) I turned a few 17's without the camera. My times with the cam, where slower (21-23's) as, the camera effects my riding postions, and I wasnt pushing too hard with the camera on. Except when I was trying to catch Rob!

Never Mind I wasn't even there that day. My last track day was way back in July I was so pissed about the motor I have forgotten what day it was.

I know I am loosing at least a second maybe more in dead bear.
I can't get that corner. I am more comfortable in lefts but that corner just screws me up.

Yeah this was in Sept with Cycle Options. And I too have problems with Dead Bear. It's a difficult corner, ofr quiet a few reasons. It's a left..Which I suck at to begin with, it's blind and up hill. What fun

I think what I need to work on most with dead bear, is entering the corner a lot hotter then I do now and letting the act of turning slow me down instead of doing it all before I get into the corner.
zx7rking

Yeah that makes sense, to try, but my biggest problem with it, is the fact thats its Blind. I always look WAY up the track, where I want to go, and going into the turn it's downhill then changes to uphill, which really makes hitting the apex, and my exit line really hard to do. I have some video of me and the 749. I learned a lot from whatching him go through there, by the end of the day I was routinely getting my knee down, which I can count one 1 hand the number of times I did that in the previous 5 years of me going to that track LOL
chrisOH
11-30-2005, 12:53 PM
I always get my knee down as I start up the hill as that is where i pull it in tight to he curb, but I think if I can find a good spot just before the hill to shoot for it will allow me to extend my slowing down portion by a good 100 ft or so.
If you can post that video of the 749 let me know, if not no problem. I noticed yours and my line through there is almost identical.

Chris heres the Video clips I strung together with some music (BE WARNED the music isnt exactly the easiest on the ears) About halfway through you'll see a Duc 749 come by me, we played around for a few laps before I ran off and left him.

Oh and the speedo is Off in that video. I put on a new 180 tire (stock size is 190) and I didnt adjust my Speedohealer
chrisOH
11-30-2005, 02:32 PM
yeah, it appears he just lets the bike slow down till he gets his line right to come out of T8.
I think that is the day my buddy went down coming out of Dead bear (sat or sun). Nasty highside on the exit.
I would love to get that file. I know our speedos are probably completely different because on my videos I was +2 in the rear with a 180. But I think your speedo is registering slow.
FYI I like the Music.

Was he riding a 2005(4) GSXR (mostly yellow) by any chance?
I saw a WICK-ED highside that day in putnam, happend right in front of me, exiting Dead Bear, wonder if that was him?

Nice video. Was that a GSX 600 you are on. You really got that thing geared! I think you only upshifted on the front straight!
Yeah My speedo is reading way slow. I know at least 10MPH slower on the front straight, lil less in the corners..but who cares LOL.

Nah it was on a 01 GSXR 1000. But my 600 is ran about the same. up to 5th on the straight. Down to third for t1- t6. Then down to 2nd for Bus stop. Quick shift on the short straight to dead bear, then back down and another quick shift up and back to 2nd before the 9-10 combo.
I have another Sprocket that is +1 bigger than what is on it, but I need to get another chain that is longer.
Yeah who cares as long as that lap timer says 1:17.xx
I hope to get into low 17's next time there.

Oh..ok Now it makes sense, before you said you had a 600, so thats what I thought the video was. I was watching it and thinking "man this 600 has a WIDE power band...and he's riding it like a 1000" You can tell with those 1000's you get on the gas SO MUCH later after the apex..just to keep the darn things from spitting you off.

Chris...what gearing do you run on your 600?
I ran -1 on the front (15/45) there last time on my 600 and I could hold 3rd through dead bear (my favorite turn) and thru the 9-10 combo. My only shift to 2nd was for the bus stop.
chrisOH
11-30-2005, 04:01 PM
I am actually running 15/46. I kept trying to use third through dead bear, but just not carrying enough speed to get a decent drive out, so I went back to 2nd for it for a better drive. With that quick shifter I have shifting is no problem.
chrisOH
11-30-2005, 04:03 PM
I figure if once I learn to carry another 10 mph or so through then 3rd will be doable. Same thing for 9-10.
goodmatt78
11-30-2005, 04:11 PM
hmmmm....maybe the internal gearing on the '04 is different from the '02 that I have? If you are running :17's you should easily be carrying enough speed to hold 3rd gear through those sections....especially with shorter gearing than the 15/45 that I run.

What RPM are you at when beginning the climb up the hill and banking of dead bear. I will check the video again as see what my rpm is in 2nd.
I am on a 03, and i am running mid to high 18s right now. But with what I found out in bus stop and T1 last time should be able to get 17s no problem.
Dead bear is probably my worst corner. As I generally tend to enter it at the speed I am using to climb the hill at the end.
Plus I don't think that push hard enough on the banked part.

I did but the video wouldn't play. I even copied it locally and it couldn't get it to run. I didn't want to bug you about it. Watching this one make me wish I had 40 more horsepower. My little 6R is tired.
