Hi All!
As I mentioned at trophies, i'd like to do a suspension and set up clinic sometime this season. All I need is all your input on what you'd like. I could have some providers there to sell you new springs and stuff, if you want, or just let you sort that out on your own.

The objective of this day will be to teach you how to get a "base line" set up as quick as you can at Nelson or at any other track you go to. We will be focusing on suspension set up, be it stock or after market and teach you how to test it so you don't waste time, fuel and tires. I've spent the last 2 years working this out and I'm confident that the system works and will give you better lap times, afterall, the proof is in the pudding so to speak. This will be for licened racers only. Cost will depend on what you folks want. We will need insurance and an abulance and probably a few corner workers to make sure we have a safe day, so that put it in the $150 to $200 range depending on how many would preregister.
Insurance is around $850, ambulance is $55 per hour and I pay the cws around $40per worker per day. Track rental varies on the date from $2000 to $3000. Do the math...

With the trackl(s) schedules the way they are It will have to be in July or August, and August looks the best right now. The other possibily is to schedule it for next season early in the year at Nelson Ledges (for obvious reasons, specifically suspension set up).

OK Let's have some feed back

Bob,
This sounds like a great idea.Iguess because of my offroad background,it amazes me that so many highly experienced road and track riders know little or nothing aboutproper suspension setup.(i worked, for several years in a RACE TECH cert.shop).
most riders dont seem to understand just how important this is.

one question. Can non racers attend the 'classroom'portion of this clinic? If so how much$$.

i personally would like to attend but i dont race.i'm sure that there are others out here that feel the same way,and maybe it will help offset the cost for the real racers.

Yes, I think allowing non-racers the ability to attend any classroom portion would be good. Personally, I need to check out my TT600 and verify if it is still set up with the stock setup, or set it back to the stock setup perhaps, and I have little experience with this.

Classroom only attendees would help you recoup some of the $, and perhaps videotaping the clinic could generate some $ from sales of a video too, in case some people are unable to attend.

I have purchased a "Setting Up for Motorcycle Roadracing" video from a shop/raceteam in Chicago (they run WERA), but the portion on their suspension setup was very confusing to me, but maybe I needed to watch it more than once.

Bob, I would be willing to be a corner worker if I'm available and like Pam and others have said, would like to attend the classroom portion of the class just for the information.

RMS, I dont' know if it's warranted or not, but if you allow "street" riders to attend, I had an idea for your perusal. For the cost of a borrowed bike, I'd be happy to assist non-racers with the track portion of their setup class. Perhaps a one-on-one approach would benefit all. Let me know if this would help, or is out of the park.

Yea what my racing partner said!!!!! And would be cool to get the street guys a part of this... This is a perfect example of sharing collective knowledge that applies and is a benefit to more than 1 sector or riding..... This could be way cool....

How long do you think the clinic would be? Would there be a way to incorporate it into a race weekend to drive the cost down? Maybe have it on a Friday before a race weekend and alternate between the street school on the track. It may help the virgin racers to get there feet wet because we would be out there with them. Or maybe have a late session after the schools are done for the day.

I'd have no problem with non racers ecept for ther on track sessions. I'm planning this to be an all day afair because there is track time involved to teach the rest of the therory.

Fridays would be easy but not everyone could get the time off, if the majority could then that would be the way to go and the easiest to get the track time.

...input please...

bob,
agree entirely with not letting non-racers on the track.maybe have a classroom session on things such as riding skills or bike maint\set-up.
i have talked with parts and tucker in the past about sending out experts on tires brakes ect. they will prolly do this for free and the input might help a few of us armchair racers to get on the track.

I am all for the Friday thing.

And for the non racers they can still learn valuable stuff in the pits. I know I would be more than happy to let a non racer stand over my shoulder while I tune my suspension. Hell might even get a few more of them to become racers. Get to the track one and you addicated like crack.

Friday would be good for me.... I like the idea of street guys there for the class part, but would rather just have the racers on the track... Going to be to busy on the track to have to worry about folks with bad lines.. As you said 4 laps and in, if you blow a lap or 2 in an outing you would not get the most out of each time out. It would be nice to have reps there too... Ohlins for sure......lol Everyone get you lap timers ready and lets go have some fun..............

If it's at Beaver, I'm there. I spent a few years as a motorcycle mechanic for a living, and even with that experience, the actual act of getting suspension tuned for the rider is still a mystery to me. If it's at Nelsons, I'll try to go, but it's a little to long of a drive to be easy for me to get there.
