Whats up with Mid-Ohio?

Does anybody know what going on up in Lexington? By now they usually have track days available for purchase (Christmas presents). Also no pro race this summer.

Re: Whats up with Mid-Ohio?

There are others here who prolly have more info than I can provide, but 1) I believe the track changed hands last year, so maybe the new owners are still getting things organized; and 2) AMA Superbike racing has been a dying sport as far as attendance goes for at least 10 years, and the purchase of the franchise by DMG a few years ago put a stake in it's heart as they gutted purses and forced manufacturers to pull sponsorship and support money from race teams.

Last I heard, DMG/AMA had dropped Mid-O from the schedule, presumably due to low ticket sales, but I haven't looked at the website this year yet.

Re: Whats up with Mid-Ohio?

The schedule is not finalized, but looking at the current schedule I'm not sure where they would put a Mid-Ohio date in, make it logistically easy for the teams, and attractive for MO management, at the same time. I expect possibly another west coast event to fill out the schedule and MO to not be included this year. Possible that they may add dates and venues in the future, but for now I don't see how the teams can be expected to run any more events than are currently scheduled.

Re: Whats up with Mid-Ohio?

I don't think the dates for the Laguna event have been finalized yet, but there is a hole in the schedule in the mid- to late-July time period, which is when the Mid-O races have been held for the last few years. There are currently 8 events scheduled, including Laguna, and the organizers state they are working on a nine-race season. I agree with you that Mid-O is unlikely, given the turnout of the recent years.

Re: Whats up with Mid-Ohio?

Leguna is scheduled July 17-19, and Indy August 7-9. I would think the attendance would suffer at both Indy and MO, if MO was put within that small window between those events. Not to mention the costs for the teams to drive quickly cross country and be forced to stay on the road for a few weeks at a time. With Leguna being the only western event scheduled so far, I would bet that they are trying to get Miller for that time period.

Re: Whats up with Mid-Ohio?

Pat: Hadn't seen the update to the Laguna event. Definitely eliminates Mid-O.
