SPOT tracker?

Anyone have a SPOT tracker you'd loan out to me (I'd pay if needed...) for an upcoming 2 week trip?

If not, can you guys who do extended travel recommend any GPS Tracking Apps for iPhone?

I'm wanting a way to keep family and friends informed of my whereabouts for a big trip. I was planning on just using "Find Friends" on the iPhone but I've had sketchy results with that in the past.

I downloaded an App or two but they seem to eat up battery power like crazy which isn't helpful!

Any clues?

Thanks

Gave my SPOT away a year or so ago. Couldn't really justify the annual subscription cost anymore.

I use an app called "Life360" for letting my family know where I am, and for me to see where my kids are. Of course, you have to have cell service for it to work well, but it works pretty darn well most of the time.

I read up on that one and liked it.

Guessing you bought the upgraded version?

Still using the free version. Four phones in my family 'group'. They can all see where I am. I can see where they are. When my oldest daughter started driving a few years ago, she had a bad habit of not checking in when she arrived at work. I setup a zone that would notify me when she got there. With the free version, you're allowed to setup two zones per group. Location services on modern smartphones is so good these days, that's it's usually accurate within a few feet. It's not always perfect, but typically good enough.

We tried it as a 'group' during a Triumph Rally one time down at Deals Gap, with a several riders in the Life360 group, hoping that we could use it as a service for finding other riders in our group, or if someone broke down they could call for assistance (or emergency help if needed). It worked but the cell service was so patchy, that the one time we had mishap during a sketchy adventure ride, the location where is happened was in a dead zone. It can help in those situations though. It just requires a rider to get to cell service.

Re: SPOT tracker?

My parents and my g/f all have iPhones so the basic idea was to use Find My Friends standard iPhone app.

I think a secondary one is best though. I'll download the Life360 and tell the others what I'm doing.

Thanks for the input!
