Re: Scooters

Hey, I am also looking for a scoot... There are so many models. some good some bad, some REALLY bad. Here are some things I have learned... I would spend lots of time on ScootDawg... ask lots of Q's.. They are a great bunch.

http://scootdawg.proboards59.com/

As far as new or used.. I am not sure. There are not many used I have found for sale in the area. The Vespa's and the like are really pricey. You are gonna need to decide where you are gonna ride this thing. If your going on the Interstate.. you need a 250cc scoot. if not.. really you need a 150cc to get to 55MPH... and to stay out of the way of the cars even just on the major state routes.

I have found that seat height is an issue... even on some of the really small 50cc scoots.. they have a 33+ inch seat and I am on my tip toes they are tall but the scoot is not long. so the leg room is bad... .. not really comfortable. BTW I am 5'8''.
In comparison the Honda Helix.. a big scoot.. has a really LOW seat..24inch. I think.

Here are some places to check for scoots for sale... the first one is a local shop. sells the cheaper Chinese stuff. I got a dual sport motorcycle here 2 years ago.. no real issues.. but you are on your own.. no warrenty really, and you better be able to fix stuff yourself. You can get a new in a crate scoot for $1000 or less. The scoots are mostly assebled already.. and you can go to his shop and see some of them. You will need a pickup to get it home.

Ray Pope runs this shop in Harrison In. He has lots of really good stuff too. He sells the better brands that have good warrenties. And is a great guy to work with. He has the Qlink Achilles 150 for a good price.. It has been reviewed extensivly on Scoot Dawg.. and is great quality. He also repairs what he sells. I would definatly check him out.

These dealers have been recomended by other people on Scoot Dawg Forum. They are brick and mortar dealers that will ship.. some have good warrenties others not so great, but they may have a great scoot for the $$.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions just ask... I have been doing a lot of research this last year.. trying to find just the right thing for me, for a price I like.

According to several of his Craigslist ads, he has shut his business down and selling off the inventory.

His website is directing people to SportTour.com (and it's forsale, his website I mean).

Re: Scooters

Not to thread jack but I have a 2003 Yamaha Zuma with 175 miles on it that I would let go for $1200 if you are interested. I was just about to list it on CL for $1500 so if you are looking for a good scoot do some research on them.

I think the real question is, how do you plan on using it? The lines between mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles, have been blurred over the years.

Re: Scooters

Another (really good )option is Autobahn Craftwerks (http://www.autobahn-craftwerks.com/) in North side. The have Bajajs and Argo scooters.

The Bajaj is a 4 speed manual shift (only one made anymore I'm pretty sure), 150 cc, and can crank up to 55~60ish (easy 50 up winton road hill) $2900 or so

The Argo is just a basic 150cc automatic Chinese scoot with motor designed by honda (bullet proof) $2500 or so

But the best part about Autobahn is the 2 year warranty! He doesnt work on anything else but those types of scooters!

Go check them out! well worth a quick trip.

Re: Scooters

Well I will send pics as soon as I can, but I have to tell you that the market isn't very bad on these right now. I see them sell daily for between $1200-$1500. But like I said before LR price of $1200....money talks. Thanks man. Sit tight pics will come. Thanks

Re: Scooters

Sorry to hear about Ray closing his shop. That really sucks.

I agree with you about the bluring of types...A Honda Silverwing.. is it a scoot or a bike? Does it really matter?
I am getting to the point in life where I want something easy to ride, and comfortable.. don't really care about the power anymore.. as long as it can outrun your typical car.

Butterfly should decide where and what kind of riding will be done, then find a scoot that fits comfortably... Scoot Dawg can help here. My trouble has been finding something with a seat height that will allow my girlfriend and I to both use it, The QLink 250 Commuter (Honda Helix) was great.. But I dont really like the stying.
I am leaning now to either of these two. Both are larger scoots, the Roketa has a 64'' wheelbase, and both are easily capable of sustained highway..75MPH+

Roketa MC-54-250B is Chinese made, with the Yamaha 257cc Engine. Can be had for $2000 delivered, with a trunk, alarm, remote start, and a radio with iPod hookup. With a 1 year warranty.

http://www.scootersus.com/roketamc54.html

Or this one,
The Aeolus 300 which is actually made by Linhai/Yamaha. It has a larger 275cc version of the same engine, Supposed to be one of the best out of China.
It is $2800, But is lacking the trunk and other goodies.

http://www.scootersus.com/aeolus300.html

I really like the Scootdawg site though... they have lots of people with experience in all kinds of scoots... from a small 50cc 2stroke.. to a new Kymco 500 Exciting.. and everything in between.. they do nice reviews on scoots, and related products.

With what I have learned and sat on myself.. I was able to choose a scoot I will like.. Now just need to get the cash together for the Spring time.. I will continue to ride My Roketa Dual sport till then.

Re: Scooters

Thanks for your info I just dont want anything or something that has to be worked on all the time, it seems like there are some people that have these that work on them quite often and there is nothing wrong with that it is just that I would prefer to do PM (prevenative maintenance) rather than always working on one. Wonder what ins.cost?? I am in KY

Thanks for the info. I often read where some people are always working on their scooter or they cannot find anyone to help them fix it and I dont want one that will always have to be worked on. There is nothing wrong with people working on them if you know what you are doing and can find the parts and honest people to ask. I am like you I want to do research before anything I also just want something to ride for fun on my off days but not something that is junk. Thanks for your help.
