Not so true
Bill was broke on his ass-- a wife and a kid.
he needed a mattress. He borrowed $100.00 from his dad to buy one.
Saw an ad for one and when he got there, the place had caught fire.
After the fire was out-- there were hundreds of mattresses some with a bit of water damage-- some just smoke damage.
The insurance guy sold him 20 at 5 bucks apiece. He borrowed his dads truck loaded em up and for 5 weekends stood on a corner selling high end, name brand mattresses for $50.00 a piece.
Every time he got some cash-- he would go buy more mattresses. Until he bought up all that weren't actually burned.
That's how he got started.
Here's his latest post on FB from his home on Lake Elsinore CA.
"Finally it sees the light of day. This 1965 Yamaha Ascot Factory Racer , is going to be for sale at The Mecum Motorcycle Auction / January at Las Vegas" .

Honda's best selling motorcycles tend to be a little generic and good at everything. But I have to disagree about your quote. Honda has thought way more out of the box than many other manufacturers. Remember the oval Piston superbike? 6 cylinder cruiser, etc. Here, check this link out.

Honda has shown some concept bikes over the years that would be mega cool to own but when it came to production not so much. The glory days of oval pistons and the CBX are gone. All the R&D money gets funneled to the next gen Civic. I saw a Yamaha concept car. If what has happened to Honda is any kind of 'things to come' then god help us if Yamaha goes down too. Honda used to be a motorcycle company that also sold cars. Now it a car company that also sells motorcycles....aircraft....boats....lawn mowers.....ect. Yea I know that Yamaha is diversified but they still care about us motorcyclist. Suzuki tried and died in the car market let's hope others learn from that.

Motorcycle sales are only 2% of total business for Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

Re: EBR purchased

And the story gets even more convoluted.

Looks like the auction is now scheduled for Jan 13th, ahead of the hearing for the 2nd auction scheduled on the 14th.

So what you're saying is, there's still time for the LR crew to get their money together.

Re: EBR purchased

Yup-- another auction. My friend says he has high bid. Someone could bid higher but then he can outbid them (unless it gets stupid).
He says E.B. is so depressed he doesn't want any part of it anymore.
Plus-- intellectual property is a real "cluster" because Harley claims they own some and Bombadier says they own some.
Doesn't look like EBR will ever start up again.

If you were still holding out hopes that you’d see new and innovative production motorcycles from Erik Buell, it appears those hopes are now dead.

Re: EBR purchased

"Sold for Scrap" is a little harsh. LAP is a liquidation company, and they will most likely set up an auction designed to collect as much profit as possible on the sale of the assets. These assets are clearly not scrap. The only way that the remnants of EBR will continue as a motorcycle manufacturing operation is if a buyer steps up and offers LAP more money than LAP would potentially collect in the liquidation. To me, the big question is brand ownership....does LAP now own the Buell name? If so, that may hold some intrinsic value to a potential buyer of the whole operation. However, I don't think they do.

Just got this from my friend Bill
So-- scrap is not the plan
------------------------
A very proud day! My son bought the Eric Buell Racing , company.
Known as EBR . It was the offshoot of one of Harley's divisions . They went bankrupt due to an India company failing to follow thru with planned investment money . They have a brand new factory and a great team. We hope to get production Restarted in the near future. They make sport bikes that are world class and compete in the market place with Ducati and other high end crotchet rockets .

(Hey Bill--WTH are Crochet rockets??-- Is that anything like a Ducati with a lace frame??)
