Bait and switch on ebay, Bimota, Aprilia, KTM

I did a search on "Bimota" on ebay in the "motorcycles" catagory. About 10 came up. I was surprised and kinda excited. Then I scroll down and there is one Bimota and the rest are harleys from a dealer in El Paso, Texas. I went to one of thier ads and they put on the bottom they also have Bimota, Aprilia, KTM etc. I knew this was just a scam to get more looks on thier junk.

So I emailed them to ask just how many Bimota's and Ducati's they had and of course they said none, they wrote {" Actually, we sold all of them already we had four two months ago. We really donít try to keep many non-harley bikes in stock"}, RIGHT. I'm pretty sure it's against ebay rules, kinda a bait and switch or some other fancy name.

I emailed them back and told them these facts and said I belong to a few differant websites and if they don't remove the names I would post and many folks may report them to ebay. They said {"F-you and report away! "}

Here is the search: http://motors.desc.shop.ebay.com/i.h...0.l1313&_rdc=1

This the ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123

I think they need to be reported to ebay, any opinions? DR

You're probably wasting your time. Probably could use that time for more constructive purposes. Gotta watch the ebay sellers sometimes though. Some "semi-precious" beads I purchased from a few vendors seem like dyed quartz or glass but I was only out a few bucks but I purchase with caution now.

That's keyword spamming, and it does violate eBay rules. The way they are doing it though rides a fine line. If they legitimately sold those other brands, it would be one thing.... but they don't. If their ads/auctions are interfering with your search because of their use of irrelevant keywords, then I'd report them for keyword spamming. I've had my own auctions stopped for using keywords that were actually relevant to the auction. It doesn't take much to get an auction yanked. eBay takes it very seriously.

Re: Bait and switch on ebay, Bimota, Aprilia, KTM

I emailed them and they haven't had a Bimota, KTM or Aprilia in "at least 2 months" and he said " we don't really sell those, we try to sell hd's" but I wouldn't have said anything untill he said F-you, thats when I decided to do something. Thats just wrong, I guess it's just the principal of the thing now.

I have a hd and have had one other, a ultra classic. My Dad, brother and several uncles all have hd's I have worked on ALL of them. My ultra broke all the time so I have spent many a $ and a lot of time at the local dealers. When I would ride other bikes in to get parts it was amazing the attitude I got, I just got tired of it. It's worse now, try going into a hd dealer and get something for a Buell, powder keg said "here's the book, look it up if you want, I don't know anything about them", what? Maybe eastgate is better, so far thats the only one I haven't dealt with.

BTW, click on that link, they have no KTM, Triumph, Aprilia, or Bimota in stock, they just put that in the ebay ad to get more looks at thier junk, KEYWORD SPAMMING, just like Tom said.

For everyone who took the time to report to Ebay I just wanted to let you know it worked. I'm glad the system works. They pulled thier ads sometime today I guess. I know they are only one of 100's doing that but maybe at least they will stop.

Great job! DR

Re: Bait and switch on ebay, Bimota, Aprilia, KTM

Dave,
They do it on craigslist too. They call them "key words" Let's say your looking for a honda. Someone selling a kawasaki will list key workds at the bottom of his ad to waste your time in hopes you'll see his add and buy his bike instead.
Key words, honda, yamaha, harley, ktm.
I got my Harley at eastgate and they have been a nice bunch to me so far. Even when I'm in the cage just looking. I was getting donations together for a benefit. Eastgate was the only dealer of the 5 local that gave me anything.

Re: Bait and switch on ebay, Bimota, Aprilia, KTM

Timmy,
Thats a good sighn for Eastgate, thats where Woody bought my bike. I just kept getting that from that place on ebay, and when I emailed them to tell them it wasn't right they got vulger it was on, you know I'm a mellow guy but when pushed I don't respond well, especially in a race car (another long boring story the pace car driver at Winchester will never forget).

I was going to call you but I hope you and all the family have a Merry Ho-Ho and a Happy Harmonica. And that goes for all the LR's too.
