Trailered the bikes to Denver as a decent starting point. Ape had family out there who were cool about keeping the car and trailer in their driveway and let us crash there before setting off and upon return. They even provided beer and food!

Here's the setup..

The trailer performed flawlessly. Tires aired up appropriately for the weight kept even wear on the bias plys. I monitored the hub temps, and only needed to add grease once when one hub was a little warmer than the other. No sway, though you could tell the trailer was about 50% of the unladen weight of the car on bumps and lane changes. On the way back it seemed more gusty.. at one point we got hit with a freak gust like I've never felt before that shot us nearly over the line (if not over), but the car in the left lane got hit with it at the same time so distance was maintained.

Packed all the luggage, tools and gear in the car. I'm glad I got the helper air spring bags for the rear end. They took nearly 30psi before the car leveled out. The little 1.5l chugged along and did it's best. I'm sure it could use an oil change now. Was probably at max load half the time over the rolling hills, but I didn't have to down shift too often. 5th in this car keeps the revs up over 3k at 65mph anyway. Even with all that I think we averaged 26mpg.

That trip across Kansas or Nebraska is brutal. I don't blame them for skipping the barren wasteland (ok, not barren there is corn, wheat and hay out there) of the USA on their trip. 2 days of hard riding to cross that at the beginning of the trip is killer.

Don't forget about the world's largest prairie dog. Kansas has that going for them too.

Lol ..... I'm just giving 'em a rib pokin'

I've thought about doing a west coast trip with my bro-n-law and we contemplated the same thing .... trailer to CO skipping the plains then let the fun begin. (I wudda at least covered it with something, to not offend the senses )

corn corn corn what's that smell? Ok well that's i-80, but I think it applies to I-70 also.

Yeah.. Been there, done that. I didn't care to do it again. Wanted to stay fresh so I could get to the coast this time. Though if we were going a totally new way I wouldn't mind doing it on the bike.

Sounds like Ape is finishing up on his reports and pics.. just waiting on any appendments from me.
