Riding time

I average about 1,000 miles per month. Here in Florida it's easy to put the miles on. Do have to qualify.....the 1,000 miles a month comes from weekend rides. We (my wife and I) do quite a bit of long distance riding. I am a member of the Iron Butt association, completing my Saddle Sore 1,000 last year. Made the ride from Jacksonville, Florida to Baton Rouge and back again all within 24hrs. Actually the recorded mileage was 1237 in 21hours. Two of us are planning a 50cc next year. Let you know how that one turns out. My wife and I just completed a fly and ride from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back 3 day weekend. What a blast. Lots of riding and lots of neat sites. It is theraphy for me.......Just to ride and leave all the cares behind.

Yea over the past few yrs...I like to get in a little over 10,000 a yr....but then again...seems for some crazy reason Ive done it 4 times now......In like ONE month....
You sometimes need to take a summer sabatical take a month off work an go ride.... It does wonders for the spirit, soul.... not neccesarily the body tho..it can make for a sore tailbone..

Need More Big Trips

Hi Guys, I usually exceed 12,000 miles a riding season which around here opens in March but decent weather doesn't set in until May 1 until into October. This year I was planning a 25 K trip out West to the headend of the Pacific Coast Highway in Lacey, Wash by way of Canyonlands, Utah, Las Vegas, Mohave & Death Valley, Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Mono Lake, Tahoe, N.Calif, Oregon, all of the Columbia River Valley, Washington, then south on the PCH to SF, LA, San Diego, into the Baja, to Cabo, ferry to Mazatlan, south to Guatamala Border, east across the isthmas of Mexico, north up the Mexican Gulf coast to Brownsville, Tx, to Dallas to visit my son & family then home to Maumee through the Ozarks. Had approval for time off and made money committments. The co brought a new project in house and asked me to set it up and run it. The option was to go on the 75 day leave of absence with no assurance I'd have a job when I got back so that would have taken all the fun outta it. Well, if I get this project set up on time (ha, ha) it will run itself and I can do a Cabo run late October thru December. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it and will give you email udates along the way. I've always wanted to learn the Cabo Wobble.

hrm.. well, i guess i dont really know how many miles i ride - but i dont drive a car unless there is snow or ice on the ground or its raining too hard to see (or im borrowing a van ot truck to go pick up a non-running bike). i figure thats why god made weatherproof gear - and a coat in the winter is a lot cheaper (and more fun) than car insurance. Plus, that way - even if work sucks or i have to travel to do something unpleasant - i still get the enjoyment of riding everywhere.

funny thing... just met up with a buddy I hadn't seen all summer and we started talking about miles on our bikes. He got his used 86 Ninja ZX6r a month or so after I got my SVS this year. He told me he put a lot of miles on his Ninja this year.... 2500+ miles. I just kinda laughed.... I told him I had put over 7500 on mine Its a 2001 and previous owners had only put 3200 miles on it (one even told me it never seen triple digits on speedo).

I did a 1300 mile road trip to TN & NC this year and 750 miles down to KY and back, rode to work many days (5 min. away) and the rest is just pure twsitie back road riding

I would have probably broke the 10,000 mile mark but spent months Sept. & Oct. putting the SVS through a total makeover.

19,043 total miles for me this year (that includes deductions of miles that other people have put on my bikes). 13,218 miles of which I put on the Triumph since Spring, the rest spread out over six other bikes since Jan.1. Was hoping to exceed 20,000 but knew realistically that it probably wasn't going to happen. Maybe this year (doubt it). I know a few of us here exceeded, 20k, 30k, 40k and maybe 50k or more.

In 2003 I ended racking up 4826 mi. on the Vulcan, and then 3196 mi. on the GPZ. Total of 8022 mi. Those were about 95% quality riding and the other 5% was commuting. My goal this year is to do a lot more commuting so I can burn less gas.
