Re: 14th annual 2014 BRP Trip After Labor Day Trip

My understanding is that Dice feels compelled to ride 100-miles more than everyone else each day, so he stays 50-miles away in Bryson City. Right?

Is this his Motel?

Can't be. I don't see his FZ1…

Besides, if you don't stay at the BRMC, Glissom can't take advantage of you. Is Phil booked up already as far as cabins?

Re: 14th annual 2014 BRP Trip After Labor Day Trip

I don't know if it's being compelled or not, but it's a perk to get a little more miles at times.
Actually breaking off from the group before they head back to the BRMC might only get me 50 extra
from the morning over depending on the route we take that day. Yep, Mr Witt, that's where I stay.
My buddy Sanjay takes care of me with a great price which is about the same as the two bunk cabins cost at the camp (unless split between 2 of course – them boys do like to spoon!). Free wi-fi to touch base at night with home, gas stations & restaurants nearby, a small pool, & a towel on your bike seat every morning for wipe down. I can ride in about 8:30-9:00, which is about the time the walking dead are eating their biscuits & gravy & feeding the camp dogs, if they survived the late night moonshine &
festivities. Then sometime between 10:00-11:00 the group heads out on the day's chosen route. Sometimes there might be a dual sport group and a paved roads group heading different directions, or maybe a group going to the dragon & Cherohala, & another group maybe going to Georgia.....everyone usually has an idea on where they'd like to head the next day. Scott, Bannister, & I can also make up routes on the fly at times if needed. I will leave copies of turn-by-turn routes we've used in the past at the camp for those that want to use them. Scott has routes loaded in his GPS also. Riding any direction from the camp puts you on great curvy motorcycle roads.

Scott,
Regardless of my ride, I will bring some yummy snacks

I reserved a cabin for myself and Kevin Worthington today. I believe we're in 10

Re: 14th annual 2014 BRP Trip After Labor Day Trip

I'm on the Thursday -> Sunday plan again this year. Booked for cabin #8. Friend of mine is considering coming down this year, he's on a BMW GS... he wants to know if any of the dual sporters are planning some off road trips during that time frame?

Definitely not. That would mean Scott would have to get his MultiStrada dirty.

Re: 14th annual 2014 BRP Trip After Labor Day Trip

I'm not gonna try to plan any routes this year, but as a heads-up, Dice and I had previously looked into making a quick trip to Big Stone Gap, VA, which never happened. However, he had already figured out a route down which featured among others, SR160 from Cumberland, KY, to Appalachia, VA. I haven't looked in detail at his route, but pretty sure it includes the Nada Tunnel and Skybridge Rd in the Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge area. [OK, I lied. He just talked to me and said it doesn't include these.]

We've already talked tentatively about making this our Day 1 ride and figuring something else out from there to Waynesville. Not suggesting the entire Tuesday group should make this their plan--I know that Bannister and Scott are still jonesin' for the Homewrecker Special at Hill-Billy Hotdogs--but just throwing it out there early as an FYI.

OK, I said I wasn't gonna do this….

….but for those yearning for a fun DS ride on gravel, check out High Knob Rd running from Norton to Fort Blackmore, VA. I'm surprised that there's even a street view by Google, but check it out. Think we can talk Dice into this adventure?

High Knob Rd. Looks inviting!!!

Kirby, I might be going and would split a cabin w/ you. I'll keep my political views to myself.

It seems hard to believe, but this long-running thread will again have some relevance to me beginning next year!

Contrary to popular belief (and what Bob says), I'm not "superman" and won't be able to make it this year, though.

I'll need to live vicariously through all of you guys for a wee bit longer...

Jeff
