Robbie Knievel Jumping Old School Style?

Robbie Knievel Keeps on Jumping
http://www.motorcycledaily.com/11dec...8_rknievel.htm

Quote:
Robbie Knievel, the 46-year-old son of daredevil pioneer Evel Knievel, plans on jumping over the huge, newly constructed $25 million volcano at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, NV on New Year's Eve. More interestingly, he is also planning to jump 16 London busses on one of his dad's old bikes.
Quote:
Robbie will attempt the multi-bus jump at London's Wembly Stadium on Evel's elderly XR750, a bike the elder Knievel failed to make a 13-bus attempt with in 1975.
He's jumping with his dad's XR750?? How cool is that?

Pretty cool.
Would be even cooler to see him jump the fountains at Ceasar's Palace on a Triumph. That was Evel's most spectacular crash IMO.

That is because Triumphs can't fly!

He spent the day sobering-up in Milford this past summer.

Then he must have been pretty drunk to agree to using using his dad's old bike to jump buses! I can hear it now.

Him waking the next morning:

I'm doing what?

With what bike...?

....you out of your F@#king mind!

Not with that piece of sh!t I ain't...!

If you look at Evil's crashes, what causes the problems is the suspension. Either the distance is so big or the landing is less than perfect smooth, the suspension is not nearly enough. Evil was the last Daredevil to use vintage era bikes and should be reconized for that. All credit to Robbie for reconizing the difference and facing his Dads challenge.

Not true ! He flew just fine in Vegas on that old Triumph. Flying was not the problem.

True...often Evel's bikes would pretty much explode on landing.

There is one guy still out there who jumps old bikes at bike rallies. Can't recall the name...maybe Bubba Blackwell ?

Evel was my hero when I was a kid in the 70's.
IMO, for better or worse, no matter what the son does......he will never be the daredevil that Evel was.

Re: Robbie Knievel Jumping Old School Style?

Oh yeah...I had a stunt cycle and a sky cycle toy. I still have a stunt cycle. Unfortunately not an original, its a repro but looks and works just like the one I had as a kid. Picked it up at Biggs a few years ago. I also have several matchbox sized Evel bikes & cars. Kinda goofy I gues....me in my forties buying toys. Oh well.......
VIVA KNIEVEL !!!!!

No biggee about the toys. I have about 200 of those 1:18 scale motorcycles. I have 'em on my desk at the office as well. Let's face it, we are all just big kids here. We just have bigger toys.

Man I loved my Evil Stunt Cycle!
I went through about 6 of them.
I wish I still had one.
