That's a nice bike. I once owned its little brother, the GS450L. Same color.

Re: 1982 Suzuki GS850 GL - shaft drive model

Hey, just took a stab at the start price based on its general apparent condition and relative rarity. If you guys want to make an auction of it, make an offer.

The bike will need(at least) : Battery, Carbs cleaned, possible rear tire. It hasnt run in years. Been garage stored.

Re: 1982 Suzuki GS850 GL - shaft drive model

Mike , this is an almost 30 year old Jap bike. It's gonna cost some bucks just to get the damn thing street worthy. Rarity?? Gimme a break. I wanted it for my son-in-laws 1st bike not some restoration project. If someone out there wants it for this purpose then by all means go for it. As for me....$1000 is way to high for this 30 year old Jap bike.

These 8-valve engines share a lot more in common with the older 550 and 750 models from the late-70's (with the exception of the shaft drive) than most of the other Suzuki models from the 80's, and they share some of the common problems as well. It a few of the photos above, it looks like there is oil around the upper fins. That too is a common problem, but I'm more concerned as to WHICH common problem. Do you know if that oil is coming from the base of the head, from around the valve covers, or from the valve cover end caps?

...and when you say "hasn't been run on years", I'm also assuming (or maybe just guessing) that you're talking MANY years. That's looks like a blue or green letter Ohio plate to me, and I don't think those have been around for 15 years or so (somewhere around 95 or 96 being the end of their life). So I'm also guessing that those tires are that old. Whether they hold air or not, I don't think I'd be running them myself. Hehe...

I've also gotta ask... Why ride a vehicle that old with questionable brakes/braking power in this day and age? $1000 would make a nice down payment on a modern bike.

(yes it has not run since the mid 90s)..Why ride a bike like this? I guess because some of you love old bikes..Well Mtynan and his son in law made an offer this evening, and its SOLD.

Talking Re: 1982 Suzuki GS850 GL - shaft drive model

Time to get out the wrenches and git busy....perhaps I should rephrase that....saying git busy has Rob H. running for the KY and grabbin' his ankles!!
Now if I could only find a CBX like this.........

He was just down here yesterday...and Saturday too as a matter of fact. You gonna use the same wrenches you used on the FZ1? If so its nice to know that the Suzi will remain a low mileage machine.
