Re: Mid Ohio Weekend Track Day

Just outta curiosity, if a guy wanted to sign up and attend one of these but didn't want to go "all-in" with his street bike, is someone there available to help with the few prep items needed (safety wiring) and would Pilot Road 4's and/or Dunlop Q3's be good enough to have fun and stay safe?

Never been on track. Would like to attend/get coaching. I'd love to get my FZ6 on track before I sell it.

I already have a moto-camping trip planned for this particular weekend but the above info would help me in the future.

Q3's would your best choice but I'm sure the PR4's would also be accepted both along they aren't to the wear bars. Plenty of peeps around could help advise you on safety wiring or even show you how!

Here is a link to the rider and bike requirements.
Sign up for Novice.
You will not have to safety wire the bike. Minimal prep.
And they have one of the best training programs in the business.

WHAT DB said.
I've been itching to do one too. Before my leathers rot off the hanger

Re: Mid Ohio Weekend Track Day

I have been running Q2'\Q3's on my old 98 ZX6R track bike for some time now. I do a lot of coaching on it and from time to time run a fairly spirited pace. I don't think twice about throwing the bike over on my knee and can comfortably run mid to lower 1:40's on the Dunlop's. When we had the KTM's there I saw a few guys riding in the mid 1:30's on the Q2's. You will be extremely happy with the grip and longevity of the Q3's unless you are looking to run an expert race pace.

For novice you really don't have to do too much other than general maintenance. In tech we will check to make sure you have plenty of life left on your brake pads, all you controls\exhausts are tight and decent tread on your tires.

For Intermediate same as above but you will need to flush your radiator and use some sort of water wetter mix instead of antifreeze. No side or center stand. Oil plug, oil fill and oil filter need to be secured using silicone or safety wire.

For Expert same as above. It's not required but at this level you really should have the 3 oils wired. I generally take a much closer look to make sure the rider didn't forget anything. I always check the front brake lever to make sure the safety nut is on and tight that is securing the bolt that holds it on.

There are always plenty of coaches there to help in every group. If I am there on the dates you decide to go feel free to grab and I can work with you.

Follow Andy's link for more information. I hope this helps.

Very helpful response. Thanks for taking the time to lay it all out there. Gonna save that info and maybe in the future I'll get to use it!
